Essential kit
For family expeditions on to the hills this shelter is invaluable. A cold December day on the western Irish hills, AFTER getting the shelter, was a huge success (huddled cosily inside, eating a picnic) - compared with a miserable outing BEFORE we had the shelter. Many more trips are planned - and looked forward to. If you have a family, you need one of these shelters! But, as they don't weigh much, they are pretty much a sensible piece of kit for anyone.
Storm Shelter 400
Brought recently this year, was used in wet and windy conditions in the Lake District , up to 75 mph gusts, and kept the whole group warm and dry. I would recommend this product, overall a great buy at a great price.
I have been a keen hill walker for the last 54 years and I walk mainly in the Lake District and the Brecon Beacons. I am used to adverse weather conditions on the hills but not so long ago i was eating my lunch on the summit of Helvelyn in the pouring rain and 60 mile an hour winds and thought that now I am in my 70’s there must be a better way of enjoying my hill walking. The storm shelter will make all the difference to my refreshment breaks. No more soggy sandwiches plus the reassurance of having a shelter in an emergency. The only things that are potential problems are getting into the shelter in a strong wind - the shelter acts like a sail in the wind and i would have preferred a better HH. A 5000HH would give better protection. Having said that it is an emergency storm shelter and it does its job well so i am pleased with my purchase.
